Warm Homes: Local Grant
Government-backed funding routed through local authorities to upgrade privately owned or privately rented homes with EPC D-G in England. Household income usually £36,000 or less, with certain benefit and eligible-postcode alternatives.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) requires larger energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency improvements in low-income and vulnerable households in England, Scotland and Wales. ECO4 ends on 31 December 2026. The government has confirmed there will be no successor supplier obligation.
View eligibility England & WalesBoiler Upgrade Scheme
Government grants towards the cost of installing low-carbon heating in England and Wales. Standard grants: £7,500 for air-to-water, ground-source and water-source heat pumps; £2,500 for residential air-to-air heat pumps; £5,000 for biomass boilers where eligible. From 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027, eligible off-gas-grid properties replacing oil or LPG can receive up to £9,000 for air-to-water or ground-source heat pumps. Not available in Scotland or Northern Ireland.

The Great British Insulation Scheme closed to new applications on 31 March 2026. Existing applications submitted before the deadline may still be processed by energy suppliers.

The Home Upgrade Grant programme (HUG2) has been succeeded by the Warm Homes: Local Grant programme. Some local authorities may still be processing existing HUG2 applications. New applicants should apply via Warm Homes: Local Grant.

Council-led energy efficiency programmes that vary by area. Some councils run group-buy schemes, top-up funding or referral routes into national schemes.

Support for solar PV includes 0% VAT on installations (until 31 March 2027), Smart Export Guarantee payments, and possible local authority schemes for lower-income households.
