What energy grants are available in the UK?
Common UK schemes include ECO4, the Great British Insulation Scheme, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, Warm Homes routes and country-specific support in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Could I get free insulation?
You may be eligible for free or part-funded insulation under ECO4 or local schemes if your home has a low EPC rating and your household is on a lower income, receives benefits, or includes a vulnerable person. Eligibility is confirmed by an approved installer or your local authority.
What EPC rating do I need for energy grants?
Most major schemes prioritise homes rated D-G. If your EPC is unknown, the checker can still help. A higher rating does not always rule you out, but lower-rated homes are usually targeted first.
Can landlords apply for energy grants?
Landlords may be eligible for schemes such as ECO4 (often via tenant-led routes) and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. There are conditions and contribution requirements.
Do I need to be on benefits to qualify?
Not always. Many schemes also accept lower-income households or those with vulnerable occupants under local authority flexible eligibility (LA Flex).
Could I qualify for a heat pump grant?
You may be eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in England and Wales as an owner-occupier or landlord. Scotland has its own Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan.
Is Energy Checker a government website?
No. Energy Checker is an independent guidance website. We are not a government body and we do not approve grant applications.
