Free Insulation Grant Checker UK

Insulation grants help reduce heating bills and improve home comfort. They are commonly available through ECO4, the Great British Insulation Scheme and local authority routes.

Loft insulation

Topping up loft insulation to current standards (around 270mm) is one of the most cost-effective improvements. Many low-income households can have it fitted for free under ECO4 or GBIS.

Cavity wall insulation

Suitable for many homes built between the 1920s and 1990s with an unfilled cavity. A pre-install survey checks suitability and damp risk.

Solid wall insulation

For older homes with no cavity. Internal or external wall insulation can deliver large improvements but is more expensive. Higher grant amounts may be available.

Why EPC matters

Insulation grants typically prioritise homes with an EPC rating of D-G, where impact is greatest. If your rating is unknown, you can still proceed with our checker.

Data accuracyEnergy grant rules change regularly. We aim to keep information up to date, but you should always confirm details with the relevant official scheme, council or approved installer.

Frequently asked questions

Is loft insulation really free?

For eligible households under ECO4 or local schemes, yes. Otherwise contributions may be required.

Will insulation cause damp?

Can flats get insulation grants?

Yes, depending on the construction type, ownership and the freeholder’s permission.
